That being said, even though these wild altums are not being imported and quickly flipped, they will require a more advanced level of care than tank bred animals. So unlike the captive bred Pterophyllum altum being produced here that are easy to care for, I can only recommend these wilds for those who have experience.

Tank bred Pterophyllum altum angelfish bred from wild parents that were collected near San Felipe on the Rio Negro. Our product, captive raised F1 Pterophyllum Altum angelfish, proudly produced and offered in the USA. These F1's were produced from wild caught broodstock collected from the Rio Negro San Felipe. These are great looking fish with tons of contrast and lots of reds and metallic sheen on their heads.
Different from Orinoco fish? Phylogenetic research has proven that Pterophyllum Altum from this catch location to be the most primitive genetically of the samples taken. This means Rio Negro P. Altum populations were among the first to evolve. The path of evolution from there ends in the most north populations of Orinoco Pterophyllum Altum. Therefore, northern Orinoco populations are more evolved and that explains why they seem different than the southern populations. The different species of Pterophyllum are most reliably distinguished from each other by their lateral line scale counts. Pterophyllum Altum populations all have 46 -48 lateral line scales. After 2 years can grow to 12 inches tall with some fish eventually attaining 17 inches tall fins stretched. A large tank is needed to accomodate their fast growth with height being an important factor. Altum angelfishes like to be kept in groups of 5 or more. Tank bred Altum angelfishes produced here, unlike wild collected fish, are exceptionaly hardy. Along with appropriate space, clean foods and large weekly water changes are all that is required for success. Shoreline Aquatics Altum angelfishes have been well cared for and raised in lots of space to insure proper growth. Fish are adapted to our local water source ph 7.2. But, they can adjust to all water conditions. Healthy Altums have the personalities of begging dogs. They are able to consume a large amount of food several times a day and therefore need consistent water changing regime. These fish here are being raised in 82f. Maintaining them long term in warmer water with discus works well.

All Altum Angelfishes being sold at Shoreline Aquatics are eating Vitacomplete Fish Food and with incredible results. Vita Complete is enriched with fish oil, vitamins, minerals and amino acids to promote a strong immune system and good growth. CHECK OUT THE VIDEO LINK SAN FELIPE F1 ALTUM EATING VITACOMPLETE FISH FOOD
Be sure to pick some of this up with your order.

WHY PURCHASE FISH HERE: The Altum Angelfish we sell are all pure genetically, strong, healthy, tank ready fish, that come free of parasites and harmful pathogens. It is my belief that keeping the fish to past 3 months of age will ultimately show us if any of the animals are not growing properly. Only the best animals that have potential for growth into big fish are ever sold.
